This oval-shaped, black-and-white photograph, titled “[Portrait of a Woman]”, was created by Louis-Pierre-Théophile Dubois de Nehaut between 1854 and 1856. The subject is an elegantly dressed woman, positioned against a backdrop of patterned fabric and seated on a chair. Her elaborate attire includes a hood adorned with fur and a large bow. This daguerreotype, a popular photographic process of the 19th century, is now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
