Curator: This intriguing work is titled "[no title: p. 83]" by Esq Tom Phillips. We don't have a specific date for its creation. Editor: It feels layered and fragmented, almost like a half-remembered dream pieced together. I'm drawn to the areas of green, they break up the dense text. Curator: Phillips often combines text and image, challenging traditional notions of artmaking. Notice how the text becomes both background and subject. Editor: Absolutely. It’s almost a palimpsest, where the original text is overwritten yet still visible, hinting at lost stories or obscured meanings. What about the social context? Curator: Well, the book page itself is significant; he's taking a pre-existing, mass-produced object and transforming it through manual intervention. Highlighting the materiality of the book. Editor: So, the artwork reclaims a discarded page, transforming it into something valuable and unique. I find that quite poignant. Curator: It’s an interesting commentary on consumption and artistic creation, wouldn't you say? Editor: I agree, the work invites us to reconsider the value we place on both text and image.
