This is a pencil sketch by American artist Mary Newbold Sargent (1826-1906) depicting the biblical event of the Feeding of the Multitude, also known as the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. The drawing is a landscape of a hill in the foreground with a mountain range in the background. Sargent's "Hill Where Our Lord Fed the Multitude" is a small, intimate sketch executed with spare lines and a sense of immediacy, which may have been intended as a preliminary study for a larger work. This sketchbook drawing is currently in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
