Studier af rammeprofiler samt notater 1919

Niels Larsen Stevns made this study of frame profiles and notes with graphite on paper. It's a small work, just under 4 x 7 inches. I am really drawn to these private sketches and notations. It makes me wonder what Stevns was thinking, sitting there with his sketchbook, working out the intricacies of these frames. I can see him, squinting slightly as he focuses on the subtle curves and sharp angles. The graphite lines are delicate yet confident, capturing the essence of each profile with precision. I notice the contrast between the angular, stepped designs and the softer, more rounded shapes. It's a mix of architecture and ornamentation. I love how these profiles are labeled with handwritten notes—a direct connection to the artist's thought process. This feels like a silent conversation with the artist, a glimpse into his creative world, and that to me is just as exciting as seeing any finished painting.
