Cache-cache 2015

Aboudia created "Cache-cache" using mixed media on canvas. His art gives visual form to the energy and chaos of urban life in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where he lives and works. Aboudia came to prominence after the 2010–2011 Ivorian crisis, a period of political turmoil and violence following disputed election results. His work captures the raw, unfiltered experiences of children living in conflict zones. The scribbled figures, layered textures, and collage elements evoke the dense, vibrant, and often overwhelming environment of the streets. The faces have a mask-like quality reminiscent of traditional African art. Yet, they reflect the resilience and resourcefulness of youth navigating difficult circumstances. Aboudia doesn't shy away from depicting harsh realities, but infuses his work with a sense of hope. The bright colors and dynamic compositions transform found materials into a celebration of life. His art serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit's ability to find joy and creativity amidst hardship.
