This drawing of a pitcher was made by Vincent Burzy sometime between 1855 and 1995. It looks like it was made with graphite or maybe even a soft lead pencil. I can imagine Burzy sitting at his desk, carefully observing the blown glass pitcher in front of him. He is coaxing the pitcher's form onto the page, capturing the light as it moves across the glass. Notice the delicate shading and the way the lines curve to suggest the three-dimensional form. It’s a lovely study in light and shadow, and the swirling pattern of the glass gives it a sense of movement. I love the note in the top right corner of the page: “Get more form. Check up on drawing." It’s a reminder that art-making is a constant process of learning and refinement, always pushing yourself to see more, to understand more, and to express more.
