Vincent Burzy made this drawing of a pitcher, sometime during his lifetime, using graphite on paper. The grey tones, the repeated lines, it's all so delicate and considered. It reminds me that drawing is such a thoughtful process of translation. Look at how Burzy uses the graphite to mimic the way light might play on the surface of the glass. See how the marks create the illusion of transparency and depth. It’s incredible when you think about it, taking something solid like graphite and using it to suggest something so ephemeral. The artist has even noted down “Get more form. Check up on drawing,” right there on the paper. Like a little window into the process itself. This makes me think of Giorgio Morandi, who also loved to draw and paint simple vessels. Both artists, in their own way, invite us to slow down and really look at the beauty of everyday objects. There's no fixed meaning, only space for interpretation.
