Nr 3 2020

This small artwork, *Nr 3*, was made in 2020 by Armin Andreas Pangerl, probably with colored pencils and ink. Look at this window onto a world of image and text! I imagine the artist sitting and writing, puzzling over what to put on the page, words and images tumbling out together. There’s a view through the window with mountains and a little house, a sort of cross dividing the view into four little scenes. The drawing is surrounded by a handwritten text that seems to merge with the image itself. The landscape and interior blend together. The window, the mountains, the house, and the person. It's all part of the same world, like a dream. This reminds me of other artists, like outsider artists or folk artists, who combine words and images in personal, idiosyncratic ways. It feels deeply sincere, like a direct expression of the artist's inner world. Like a diary entry, revealing and concealing at the same time. Artists and writers learn from each other across time, taking inspiration and making something new.
