Armin Andreas Pangerl made Nr 3 with pencil and colored pencil, I reckon. The piece looks like a stream of consciousness. The script around the edge feels like a personal diary entry, and the drawing like an attempt to picture a feeling. The lines are tentative and the colors are light, as if sketched quickly. But the composition is carefully considered, with the window frame and the lines at the bottom creating a sense of depth. There's something very vulnerable about this kind of artmaking, the artist laying themselves bare on the page. It reminds me a little of outsider art, in the sense that it feels unfiltered, coming directly from the artist's inner world. The image of the house in the window has a symbolic feeling; a child-like idea of home, and a window onto a place within. Pangerl's work reminds me of the art of Alfred Kubin. Both artists share a love of the grotesque, and a fascination with the darker aspects of the human psyche. Both embraced art as a space of ambiguity, as a form of free expression.
