David Annesley made this sculpture, "Godroon", sometime in his career from steel. It's currently chilling at the Tate Modern in London. It's all about curves, isn't it? And that pale blue, like a faded memory of the sky, gives the whole thing a light, airy feel. Looking at the surface, you can almost feel the coolness of the steel, smooth under your fingertips. I wonder, did Annesley want us to touch it? To trace those curves with our hands? The way it loops and folds, it’s like a drawing come to life. That one spot where the two curves almost kiss, but don’t quite, that’s where the magic happens for me. It reminds me of the work of Anthony Caro, but with a softer, more playful touch. Art is just one big conversation across time. It’s never really finished, you know? And that’s the beauty of it.
