Harrie Gerritz created this print, Compositie met driehoek, with serigraphy, a printing technique that allows for bold colors and graphic shapes, in 1985. I love the color palette here—muted blues and grays paired with earthy browns, punctuated by that striking pink triangle. It’s a simple form, but the way Gerritz layers the colors and textures gives it a real sense of depth and movement. I can imagine Gerritz carefully placing each shape, building up the composition layer by layer. There's a playful balance between abstraction and representation, where forms feel both familiar and strange, like a landscape, but not quite. This piece reminds me a little bit of early work by Elizabeth Murray or even some of the later paintings by Philip Guston, where simplified forms and bold colors come together to create something both whimsical and profound. It's all one conversation, isn't it?
