Editor: This etching, "The Old Gate of Vaize at Lyons" by Jean Jacques de Boissieu, feels almost dreamlike, like a memory fading. It's so detailed, yet so...still. What catches your eye in this piece? Curator: It whispers of time, doesn't it? The crumbling gate, the gathered figures, it's a stage set for contemplation. I see echoes of Piranesi, that same romantic fascination with ruins. What do you make of the man kneeling? Editor: I hadn't really focused on him. It's as though he's the only one aware of the viewer. Curator: Perhaps he is. Perhaps we are all kneeling before the past. Editor: So, is it more about the past than just a physical space? Curator: I think so. It's about how the past lingers, changes us, and how we carry it into the future.
