This cast iron "Dog on Tub" still bank was made by the A.C. Williams Company, and its rich brown color and slightly worn surface give it a sense of history and charm. I love how it's not just a functional object, but a little sculpture. Can you imagine the artist, or rather the artisan, carefully crafting the mold, pouring in the molten iron, and then meticulously painting the surface to bring out the details of the dog? The slight imperfections in the casting and the worn paint only add to its appeal, like the tiny scars that make us who we are. The dog looks so serious, sitting on its little tub-shaped base, almost as if it's guarding a secret. Maybe the secret is that saving money can be fun! This piece reminds me that art can be found in the everyday objects we surround ourselves with, transforming the mundane into something meaningful and beautiful. It's a dialogue across generations of artists.
