This *Begging Rabbit* still bank was manufactured by the A.C. Williams Company. Look how this little guy is burnished to a deep, warm brown, a bit like tarnished bronze, worn smooth with age. I imagine the artist, maybe in a factory setting, carefully considering the pose, making the rabbit appear both vulnerable and upright. The rabbit's posture is so human-like, standing on its hind legs, paws clasped in front. Its dark, beady eyes seem to plead. What was the artist thinking, giving the rabbit such a hopeful, yearning expression? Was there something in their own life that made them want to capture that sense of longing? There's an incredible sense of touch and texture here, the smooth metal contrasting with the implied softness of fur. It’s interesting to think of the conversation and exchange of ideas between the artist and the person who eventually owned it. It makes me think about the power of objects to hold memories and inspire creativity.
