"Taperstick" is a small, silver candlestick created by Henry Chawner between 1793 and 1794. The candlestick features a circular base with a raised rim and a central pillar that holds a candle. A small, conical snuffer is attached to the side of the base. The piece is notable for its elegant form and the inclusion of a chain attached to the base, which may have been used to suspend the candlestick or secure it to another object. This piece is an example of the high quality craftsmanship and attention to detail that characterized British silversmithing during the late 18th century.
