This is a portrait of a woman by Pablo Picasso, and you can tell he's used oil paint to build up this strange, but also sort of familiar, face. I imagine Picasso in his studio, wrestling with shapes, colors, and feelings, trying to capture something essential about this woman. He layers hues of lavender, mustard, and olive to create a composition that feels both serene and unsettling. It's like he's reaching into the essence of his subject with that thick, textural paint, but he's not really trying to record any specific likeness. Picasso’s portraits often offer a way of seeing and experiencing the world through fractured and multiple perspectives, and I know a lot of other painters, including me, have also been inspired by that!
