Editor: This untitled photograph by Tracey Moffatt, taken sometime around 1997, captures a blurry crowd scene. There's a real sense of unsettled energy here. What do you make of this image? Curator: It feels like a memory, doesn’t it? Fragmented, with the edges softened. Moffatt often explores themes of identity and displacement, so perhaps this captures the feeling of being lost in a crowd, or a culture. Notice how certain figures are sharp, while others are just ghostly blurs? Editor: Yes, the contrast is striking! Is she making a comment on who is seen and who is not? Curator: Precisely! Perhaps it is a dance... A way to make visible the feeling of a place. Editor: I hadn’t considered that. Thanks, I will keep that in mind. Curator: My pleasure. It is like a song, no?
