This woven Panel, of an unknown date, was made by an anonymous artist. Look at the way the weaver works with color. It’s mostly a deep, vibrant red, but it’s not uniform. There are variations, shifts, and subtle changes in tone. This is like a painter mixing colors directly on the canvas, responding to the feel of the pigment. What I love about this panel is how the simple motifs are organized and repeated, creating a rhythm that's both calming and engaging. The horizontal lines that run throughout the piece give it structure, while the triangles, animal figures, and geometric shapes add visual interest and texture. Notice one small, almost playful detail: the little bird figure near the middle of the panel. It’s simple, almost childlike, but it adds so much character to the piece. The weave echoes the work of Anni Albers, who also brought a painter's sensibility to weaving. It reminds us that art is not just about the final product, but about the process of making and the ideas that emerge along the way.
