Skirt (Aksu) 1950 - 1960

This woven textile, titled “Skirt (Aksu)”, was created by an anonymous artist in Aksu, Xinjiang, China between 1950-1960. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns of the skirt, including geometric shapes and stripes, showcase the rich artistic traditions of the Uyghur people of Xinjiang. The skirt is made of wool, demonstrating the use of local materials in creating this unique and historically significant piece of art. It is currently housed in the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
