This page from Johann Sibmacher’s *Newes Modelbuch in Kupffer* (1604) features two different designs for embroidery. The designs, which are numbered XXIII and XXVII, consist of intricate geometric patterns that could be used to decorate clothing, household goods, and other objects. These designs are an excellent example of German Renaissance embroidery patterns. They are both symmetrical and well-balanced, and they feature a variety of shapes, lines, and textures. Sibmacher, a German embroiderer, produced this pattern book for other embroiderers to use as inspiration. *Newes Modelbuch in Kupffer* is an important example of a printed pattern book and highlights the popularity of embroidery as a decorative craft.
