This 17th-century engraving by Hendrick Goltzius, titled "Minerva vraagt Nijd om jaloezie in Aglauros te ontsteken", depicts the Roman goddess Minerva standing tall and holding a spear, urging Envy to incite jealousy in Aglauros, a character from Greek mythology. The engraving, created using the technique of chiaroscuro woodcut, showcases Goltzius's mastery of light and shadow, adding depth and drama to the scene. The work, part of a series of engravings based on Ovid’s “Metamorphoses”, is a fine example of Mannerist style, characterized by its elongated figures and dramatic compositions. It is now housed in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and stands as a testament to Goltzius's influential role in the development of printmaking during the Dutch Golden Age.
