This untitled installation by Rodrigo Franzao is comprised of many colorful paper squares affixed to a wall, a piece that defies the usual conventions of display. Franzao, born in 1982, would have come of age during a period of shifting cultural identities and increased awareness of global issues. The work hints at the intersection of identity and collective experience. Each square, unique in color, can be seen as an individual identity, yet together they form a larger whole, a tapestry of shared space. Does this mean to reflect community? Nation? Perhaps it is even a more utopian vision. The use of ephemeral materials and the grid-like arrangement could be read as both a critique and an embrace of modernist ideals, raising questions about the nature of permanence, value, and the role of art in shaping our perceptions of society. It asks us to consider what it means to belong, to stand out, and to contribute to the collective human experience.
