J.A. Jerichau (II) created this text titled Om "Den største Kraft", "det evige" og "det uendelige Rum", or About “The Greatest Strength”, “the Eternal” and “the Infinite Space”, sometime around the turn of the century. Working on paper, Jerichau has filled the page edge-to-edge with a dense layering of handwritten script, made using some form of graphite. The frenetic handwriting suggests a compulsive need to record every thought. Here, the choice of a ubiquitous, readily available material aligns with a creative process rooted in the everyday. Paper and pencil, humble as they may seem, serve as the conduit for Jerichau’s deep reflections on strength, eternity, and the cosmos. These philosophical themes transcend the physical constraints of the medium itself. The material’s inherent qualities—its texture and capacity to absorb the graphite—become secondary to the weight of the ideas. It blurs the lines between high art and craft. Jerichau's text invites us to consider how the most profound ideas can emerge from the simplest of means.
