Robert Adams pointed his camera towards Weld County, Colorado, and captured this image, which looks to me like it’s made of the same stuff that dreams are made of. Here the land meets the sky with a quiet poignancy, like two old friends who’ve seen it all. The clouds hang heavy, pregnant with unspoken stories, and the land stretches out, a canvas of muted greens and greys. I imagine Adams, the artist, standing there, feeling the wind, the silence, the vastness, and thinking, "How do I capture this? How do I make this stillness sing?" I think of other painters here, like Agnes Martin and Vija Celmins, who looked long and hard at landscapes and found something in it, too. There's a quiet revolution happening here. Artists keep talking to each other across the years, nudging our perception, challenging our assumptions. And that’s what keeps it fresh, keeps it real, keeps it interesting.
