This is ‘Panorama’ by Jirí Balcar, made in 1968, probably with some kind of printmaking technique, but who knows! It’s this intense layering of marks, like a storm of ink, which makes a landscape. It's pretty dark but not scary, right? The marks form buildings, maybe trees, and then, above, this crazy sky. It's like he's trying to capture the feeling of a place, not just what it looks like. I love how the ink is so thick in some spots, you can almost feel the texture. Look at the upper part, how the lines are going every which way. It feels like chaos, but somehow it all comes together. Balcar reminds me of Emil Nolde; both weren't afraid to get messy and emotional with their art, capturing a world that's both beautiful and a little bit unsettling. Art is about feelings, not just facts!
