Last Supper, from Passion of Christ 1575 - 1600

This 16th century engraving titled “Last Supper” by Jan Sadeler, the Elder, depicts the biblical event of Jesus Christ’s final meal with his disciples. The composition is framed in an oval and features ornate decorative elements typical of the Renaissance style. The figures are depicted in a dramatic and expressive manner, with detailed folds in their garments and expressive facial features. The central scene of the meal is surrounded by a complex array of decorative elements, including cherubs, flowers, and other biblical symbolism. The artwork is housed in the Art Institute of Chicago.
