Editor: So, this is John Adams Whipple's photograph, Mt. Corral, Wolfeboro. It's an older piece, and looking at it, I immediately get a sense of quiet, rural life. What stands out to you? Curator: Notice how the stone walls snake through the landscape, almost like veins connecting the farm to the distant mountain. These walls, literally built by hand, speak of human endeavor and a lasting relationship with the land, don't you think? Editor: That's interesting! I hadn't thought of them as connectors, more like divisions. Curator: Perhaps they're both. Consider the barn and the house – archetypal symbols of shelter and sustenance. Do they evoke any particular feelings in you? Editor: They do feel very foundational, like the basics of human existence. I appreciate the image a lot more now.
