I'm really drawn to the way Howard Arkley used acrylic paint to create "Bungalow." There's something immediate in the mark-making, the bold outlines that articulate the house and its surroundings. It’s like he's saying, "Here it is, in all its colorful glory!" The color palette is so distinctive. That blue against the pink and brick hues really vibrates. It’s not just about representation; it’s about the pure joy of color and line. I love the flatness of the surface, which adds to that feeling of graphic intensity. You can almost feel the brushstrokes, see the way he layered the paint to get that perfect, vivid tone. It reminds me a little of Wayne Thiebaud, in its celebration of everyday structures. Arkley takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. Art is an ongoing conversation, right? A bungalow becomes a monument to the beauty of the commonplace.
