Gustav Klimt made this square canvas, Blooming Field, with oil paints, maybe sometime in the early 20th century. It’s so packed with dabs of color, it’s almost a mosaic made of paint! The colors create a surface that feels both dense and airy. You can almost feel the breeze rustling through the grass. The paint isn't too thick, but Klimt's touch is all over. He uses these little flicks and dots, building up the image bit by bit. Look at the way he captures the light filtering through the trees. It's not about precise representation, but about the feeling of being in that field. Klimt’s later landscapes get even more abstract, blurring the line between what’s real and what’s felt. He reminds me a bit of Van Gogh, with that intensity of feeling, but there's something uniquely Klimt about his decorative impulse. Art isn't about answers, it's about opening up possibilities.
