Alfred Freddy Krupa made this ephemeral figure in ink on paper. Imagine Krupa’s hand swooping with the brush, the ink bleeding softly into the fibres. Ghostly, almost rubbed away, the figure seems to emerge and recede simultaneously. I wonder if Krupa felt like he was conjuring something, tracing the faint memory of a form? The sweeping black gestures that crown the figure's head contrast with the delicate white lines that map out its body. Look how the pale body is rendered with such a light touch, as if a breath could erase it. It reminds me a little of Cy Twombly's scribbled lines, where the act of mark-making becomes a way of feeling and remembering. Painting can be a kind of séance, a way of calling forth feelings and forms from the ether. Each brushstroke carries its own energy. And through the artist’s ongoing exploration, new possibilities arise, and the conversation continues.
