This skirt was hand-made by Tai Lao. I wonder how long it took to make. Look at the way the patterns have emerged through a patient and repetitive process of weaving. I'm struck by the ochre and gold palette, it feels both earthy and luminous. I can imagine the weaver carefully selecting each thread, layering colour and texture to create this gorgeous surface. The pattern is constructed through a kind of quiet rhythm, like a musical score played out through thread. The skirt reminds me that art-making is not just about individual expression, but about cultural traditions and shared knowledge. Each maker builds upon the work of those who came before, creating something new while also honoring the past. When you look at it you can feel how clothing can express identity, community, and creativity.
