About this artwork

This is Bernard Krieger’s 'Tea Table,' a small watercolor rendering on paper. It's interesting how the texture comes alive through the layering of thin washes, almost like a dance of light and shadow. Krieger coaxes out these delicate variations that capture the essence of the wood, making it almost touchable. Notice how the legs curve and end in these beautifully rendered claw feet. The slight imperfections in the drawing give it a real presence, a kind of quiet confidence. The details are exquisite, from the wood grain on the tabletop to the carved details. It reminds me of some of the early studies by furniture designers and makers. These are both functional objects and things of great beauty and detail. It shows how art blurs those fixed boundaries.
