Iseult Labote's "Exo Mattresses n°V" is a photograph, and in it, the light and shadow feels like a painting. It's a study in contrasts, like in a Morandi still life. The texture here is everything. The rough, almost brutalist wall is so different from the softness of the bedding. But look closer, and the blankets aren't just soft, they're piled, worn, and tell a story of use. The color palette is muted, verging on monochrome, but then there's this pop of red on the bedspread. It's almost like a tiny rebellion against the somber tone. I'm reminded of early photographs by artists like Alfred Stieglitz, who saw the potential for poetry in the everyday. Labote is doing something similar, finding beauty in the mundane, and reminding us that art is all about how we see, not just what we see.
