Here we have Picasso's 'Glass and Fruits', a small painting at MoMA, probably made in his studio. Look at how the paint is thickly applied, giving a dense texture to the canvas. You can almost feel the artist’s presence, his struggle to capture the essence of these everyday objects: a glass, some fruit, a table. I imagine Picasso stepping back from the canvas, squinting, maybe tilting his head, trying to find the right balance between representation and abstraction. And that color! That deep, earthy red that dominates the composition. It’s like he’s painting not just what he sees, but what he feels. There is so much conversation happening in painting, and Picasso was definitely in that conversation! We all are, as artists, referencing each other, inspiring each other, pushing each other to see the world in new ways.
