This is “De Nieuwe Courant,” printed on Saturday, May 1, 1909. I love how this newspaper isn’t trying to be precious. It’s just ink on paper, delivering news. You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about the physicality of art lately, and how we experience things with our bodies. In this sense, a newspaper has a particular weight and texture. It's meant to be handled, folded, and maybe even stained with coffee. I wonder what it felt like to hold this paper back in 1909? What were people thinking as they read about the world? Were they as overwhelmed by information as we are today? The layout is so dense, so packed with tiny words. You could spend hours just poring over the details. There's something strangely comforting about that, a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there's always something to discover, something to hold onto. It reminds me that art, like life, is an ongoing conversation.
