Joshua Flint painted this oil painting called ‘Future Present’, but the date is unknown. I love how Flint uses a limited color palette to create a mysterious atmosphere, where the brushstrokes are visible, and the textures are palpable. The painting is full of dark greens and blues with a few neon highlights. I like how the bike rider is in shadow, almost faceless, with a light behind him like he is moving from the past into the future. You can see the texture of the brushstrokes in the background. The two floating objects almost look like alien drones watching this lone cyclist. The glowing lines of the drones remind me of early Chris Burden sculptures. Ultimately, ‘Future Present’ is about the strange beauty of the unknown and the ways art can capture fleeting moments in time.
