"Maria met kind omgeven door engelen in grot met Jozef en koning in aanbidding" (c. 1475-1480) is an engraving by Andrea Mantegna that depicts the Adoration of the Magi. The scene takes place in a cave, where Mary and the infant Jesus are surrounded by angels. Joseph and a king are kneeling in adoration. The composition is very dense and complex, with figures arranged in a pyramidal shape. Mantegna’s use of perspective and foreshortening create a sense of depth and realism.
