Robert Frank captured this image, Valencia, Spain, with a camera, obviously. The way he plays with light and shadow isn't about perfection. It’s more like a dance with what's in front of him. The blacks are deep, almost like ink, and the whites have this glow, but it’s not clean; it’s got grit. There's something about the way the image feels rough and real. Look at how the flowers are soft, but the carriage is hard. The lines create a sense of depth and movement. It’s like he’s showing us something heavy. Something solid. Frank reminds me of Walker Evans, who wasn’t afraid to show the world as it was, not as people wanted it to be. Both of them, they were part of this ongoing conversation about seeing, about truth, and about what it means to be human. It's like they're saying, "Here, look at this. What do you see?"
