Friedensreich Hundertwasser made this painting, *928 Antipode King*, and I love how the colors and shapes just seem to tumble out of each other. Look at the texture, that blue paint is thin and washy, like watercolor, but then he’s piled on the gold, giving it some real heft. I’m really drawn to the little row of houses at the bottom. Each one is different, like a little portrait. They feel very handmade, imperfect, like the kind of thing a kid would draw, but they're also full of feeling. You know, Hundertwasser wasn’t afraid of ornament, he went all in! It reminds me a little of Gustav Klimt, especially in the way he uses gold and pattern. But Hundertwasser is quirkier, more eccentric. It’s like he’s saying, "Let's celebrate the weirdness and beauty of the world, all at once." For me, that’s what art’s all about!
