Leonard Edmondson made this print, Escarpment, and what I see are layers, both literal and conceptual. The color palette is muted, earthy – a foundation upon which the artist builds a world of abstract forms. It's like looking into the depths of a canyon, each stratum revealing something new about the history of mark making. There's a real sense of physicality here, isn’t there? The texture feels palpable, almost begging to be touched. You can imagine the artist layering the ink, pressing the plate, each action leaving its trace. The surface is alive with detail – lines and shapes that seem to dance and collide. Look at that cluster of black geometric shapes in the bottom left, how they seem to anchor the composition, providing a sense of stability amidst the chaos. This print reminds me a little of Joan Miró's playful abstraction. It embraces ambiguity, inviting us to find our own meaning in the landscape.
