This anonymous photograph captures the Sint-Lambertuskerk in Buren with what looks like light itself. The tones are soft, almost monochromatic, giving the whole scene a feeling of a faded memory. It's all about atmosphere here, isn't it? The way the light seems to dissolve the edges of the building, blurring the line between what's solid and what's not. There's a delicate dance between the architecture and the natural world, as the branches of the trees reach up towards the church. I find myself drawn to the small, rhythmic details of the fence, a kind of grounding element in all that ethereal space. This work reminds me of some of Gerhard Richter’s blurry photographs-turned-paintings, where the act of looking becomes more about feeling than seeing. In the end, maybe that’s what all art is, an attempt to make sense of the world through feeling. And that, my friends, is something worth embracing.
