This silk panel, woven by French artist Jean Revel between 1730 and 1735, showcases a repeating floral motif. Revel’s design, now part of The Art Institute of Chicago’s collection, features stylized flowers and leaves against a background of interlacing geometric patterns. The artist employed a technique known as "brocaded silk," where the design is created by weaving in additional threads of contrasting color. The intricate weaving and repeating pattern demonstrates Revel's mastery of textile design, a popular artistic medium in 18th century France.
