Curator: This work is by Ian McKeever, part of the Tate Collections. It combines text and image in a diptych format. It has a stark, almost minimalist quality to it. Editor: My first impression is a feeling of quiet contemplation, almost melancholic. The stark contrast and muted tones evoke a sense of stillness. What do you make of it? Curator: McKeever often explores themes of landscape and memory. The text alludes to natural elements, while the abstract form on the right suggests a landscape, too, even if an obscured one. Editor: The juxtaposition of text and image is powerful. The poem seems to ground the abstract image in a specific natural scene, yet the image resists easy interpretation. I wonder about the socio-political implications of our detachment from the natural world. Curator: It reflects on nature and our relation to it. I agree that the artist encourages our exploration of those themes! Editor: Yes, I feel a greater sense of urgency about our place within those systems!
