Editor: This untitled work by Ian McKeever features two blocky shapes, one intensely dark and the other a ghostly white. It's striking how different they are, and I wonder what that contrast is meant to convey. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see a commentary on the power of representation. The contrasting blocks could symbolize the binary oppositions inherent in institutional structures: black and white, presence and absence, inclusion and exclusion. Do you think the artist is making a statement about the gallery space itself? Editor: Possibly. The stark contrast feels intentional, almost like a critique. It's interesting to consider the gallery as a space that defines what is seen and unseen. I never thought of it that way. Curator: Exactly. And how does the act of exhibiting this piece change its meaning? Is it reinforcing or challenging existing power dynamics? Editor: That’s a good question, one that I will remember.
