This "Silver Mug" was made by an anonymous artist with what looks like graphite on paper. I love the precision of the rendering, especially the light as it defines the curves of the cup. The artist really looked at the subtle changes of tone and how they describe the object's volume. I wonder what they were thinking while making this. Were they interested in the geometry, in the feel of the metal, or in the mug's function? Were they trying to get every detail exactly right? Look how the handle seems to float away from the body of the mug, creating a lively, decorative effect. I'm reminded of a piece of jewelry or some kind of adornment. The artist seems to have delighted in the contrast between the mug's simple form and the handle's more extravagant curves. It makes me want to grab a drink!
