This document was made in Amsterdam, on the 24th of October '40. Imagine the person who wrote this; they had to have been so practical. I mean, look at how neat and organized it is. You can tell they are very considered, making sure that everything lines up perfectly. The text feels so controlled. There’s something about the letter ‘U’ that keeps coming up… It’s so formal. You can imagine a certain dryness to their character. What would it have been like to write this? It’s so assertive, and yet there is also an element of uncertainty in their position. The signature at the bottom is the opposite of the typed script, it is very bold. The relationship between the two is like an exchange, each informing the other. Together, they make something new. It’s like a conversation between two selves.
