Editor: This is a print by Harold Cohen from 1969, currently untitled. The red and blue tones give it a very strange, almost otherworldly quality. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see a compelling study in contrasts. The hard-edged geometry battles with fluid, organic forms. The diptych format further emphasizes the inherent tensions within the composition. Editor: Tensions? Curator: Yes, the work seems to oscillate between representation and abstraction, figuration and ground. The artist uses color to create depth, but also to flatten the image. Editor: I see what you mean, it's like the colors are pushing and pulling at the forms. I never noticed the diptych format so much, but it does create a separation. Curator: Precisely, the piece is structured by these formal oppositions, which invites the viewer to unpack its intricate layers. Editor: Thanks, I'll definitely look more closely at color and composition from now on!
