Louis Cossin, born in Troyes, made this print called "Vier Motieven in een Landschap", or "Four Motifs in a Landscape". We see repeated here the egg and the triangle, ancient symbols filled with meaning. The egg, often associated with fertility and rebirth, appears frequently across cultures, from ancient Egyptian creation myths to Christian celebrations of Easter. The triangle, pointing upwards, symbolizes aspiration and the connection between the earthly and the divine. Think of the Renaissance, when artists frequently integrated geometric forms to communicate hidden theological concepts, as the egg and triangle, vessels of cultural memory, resurface, transformed by the subconscious needs and desires of each new age. These symbols persist, evolving, in a cyclical dance through time, and touch us in ways we cannot fully articulate.
