Yolande Delasser created this lovely watercolor of a jar. Can you imagine her, brush in hand, coaxing these muted browns and blues into being? I am drawn to the the way the paint has pooled and settled, creating subtle shifts in tone, and the way the lettering on the jar’s surface is delicately rendered. It makes me wonder, what was Delasser thinking as she painted? Was she lost in observation, fascinated by the play of light and shadow on the ceramic form? There’s a quiet intimacy here. The careful attention to detail makes me think of Chardin, whose humble still lifes celebrate the beauty of everyday objects. When I look at this simple jar, I find myself pondering the connection between art and craft, and how painting can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. It’s like she's reminding us to slow down, to really look, and to find beauty in the unexpected.
