This Jar was rendered in watercolor by Yolande Delasser, though we don't know exactly when. It's got this really lovely, muted palette, all browns and blues, which speaks to the simplicity of the subject matter. It feels real, doesn’t it? Like I could reach out and touch it. There is a focus on the object’s texture, the slight variations in the ceramic's surface, which is beautifully rendered. The brushstrokes are delicate, creating a sense of depth and volume. I'm particularly drawn to the floral design on the front, these quirky, folk-art-like motifs. They feel so deliberately placed, like each dot and dash was a conscious decision. It reminds me a little of Mary Heilmann's ceramics. Delasser's "Jar" is a reminder that art doesn't have to be loud or flashy to be profound. Sometimes, it's the quiet, unassuming objects that hold the most beauty. It’s a cool conversation about art, craft, and the everyday.
