Henri Verstijnen made 'Het konijn', or 'The Rabbit', a black and white print, and its all about process. Look closely and you can see how it was made, each tiny scratch and line building up to create this cute fluffy bunny. There is something so satisfying about how Verstijnen coaxes light out of darkness. It’s all about the contrasts: the crisp white fur against the shadowy background, the sharp lines defining the rabbit’s features. See those whiskers? Each one is like a tiny, deliberate stroke, capturing the animal’s sensitivity. This print reminds me of work by Käthe Kollwitz, where stark blacks and whites convey deep emotion. Both artists share a love of mark making, and of course this print leaves plenty of room for our own feelings and readings.
