Editor: This black and white photograph, with no title, is by Tracey Moffatt. I’m immediately struck by the contrast between the figures and the desolate landscape. What compositional elements stand out to you? Curator: Note how Moffatt uses the verticality of the pole as a stark division, almost cleaving the image. This creates a binary, a tension between the foregrounded figure and the scene's receding depth. The grayscale palette accentuates the harshness. Do you perceive how the textural variations in the print contribute to its impact? Editor: I see what you mean. The smooth skin of the figures pops out against the grainy landscape. It's almost surreal. Thank you. Curator: Indeed. The formal arrangement underscores its captivating nature.
